2002 Chevy Cavalier Jerking

My car is jerking like when it goes between 1000 and 2000 RPMS. It happens especially happens when going up a hill. It happens more often when the gas gage is below half a tank. What could be wrong?

There is no check engine light on. And my last tuneup was about 50,000 miles ago.

Sounds like a misfire to me. Have the plug wire looked at and see if they are arching

It now has a check engine light on and the trac off light is on. And now it spudders like it is going to die when I am at a complete stop.
