I'm trying to replace the rusted exhaust bracket holding the muffler in place. Installing the new bracket seems extremely easy, but removing the old bracket has proved difficult.

The rod extending from the bracket slides into a rubber boot and the beveled edge keeps it from sliding out. This is the tough part. What's the best way to remove the old bracket?

What I did was unbolt the rubber piece from the body, which will make it a little easier to remove the old rod. Then, I used a combination of WD-40, a pair of channel locks, and some good old-fashioned elbow grease to get the old rod out. That is the hardest part of this whole process!

Hope that helps.
