2001 Chevy Cavalier engin idle

engin starts at 2000 plus rpm and idles at 1000 rpm. if the problem is the iac valve what is the difficultly of installation or cleaning this unit?

You more than likely have a vacuum leak, but remove the IAC and clean the pintle and base.

IAC is on the throttle body, remove bolts/connector, pull IAC out. Make sure you disconnect the negative battery cable before starting.
