2000 Chevy Cavalier Undetermined Noise

2000 Chev Cavalier with 101,00 miles has begun to make a noise which is louder when I turn my fan on and stops when I turn it off. I have on occasion heard it when I do not have the fan on. When I had my oil changed I was advised I needed a motor mount? Could this just be a fan going bad??
