1999 Chevy Cavalier Knocking Noise

1999 Chevy Cavalier 4 cyl Automatic 126000 miles

I have a 99 Cavalier when I started my car up after putting gas in it, it start knocking very loud coming from by the alternator and water pump. When I hit the gas the knocking goes faster. Any idea what could be causing this?

Take the drive belt off and see if any of the pulleys are loose.

Took alternator belt off and started engine still made knocking noise.

Then you have a internal engine problem. I would suggest having it looked at

Someone told me it could be a leak in the exhaust manifold does that sound right?

With out hearing the sound its hard to tell. I usually go by the worst case on here so. But yes it could be a leaky exhaust manifold. With the engine cold, start it and put your hand around it and see if you feel air. Does the engine run ok other than the knocking noise
