Transmission problem
1999 Chevy Cavalier 4 cyl Manual 140000 miles

I was driving and heard a clanking noise then the car acted like it downshifted. When I stepped on the gas the front end was shaking and the car didn't want to go. I pulled over and when I tried going again the car would not move forward or reverse.

Obviously, something broke.

If you are going to repair it yourself, then tow it home, raise car, put on stands and inspect brakes, rotors, CV joints, bearings, motor mounts, ball joints etc.

Most likely you will see something very quickly.

Any fluid leaking?

There isn't any fluid leaking. The car was acting fine and then all of a sudden this happened. It doens't want to move at all.

It may be a bearing hub has siezed, axle broke (not likely), brake caliper siezed etc. You will have to inspect them all to find the culprit.

When you raise the car start by rotating the tire and see if it is siezed, remove wheel, caliper, rotor and inspect the hub bearing, continue until you find the problem.

Could it be the transmission? It's a 5 speed.

Possible, but check fluid level, if OK, then I doubt it. If empty, then trans could have siezed, and since you said you have no leaks (trans fluid would leak from axle seals), I would think a bearing, brake, CV joint problem.
