1998 Chevy Cavalier Speedometer broken after replacing alte

1998 Chevrolet Cavalier RS. alernator died, took out the battery and alternator to have them checked. battery was fine, but had to replace the alternator. after doing so, i put the battery back in and started the car, engine worked fine but now my speedometer is stuck on the highest mph. all other gauges work fine..

Try tapping the front of gauge to see if it will release.

If not, check the VSS connector on trans, you may have hit it when changing alt.
