Electrical problem
1998 Chevy Cavalier 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic 206k miles

Okay..it all started when I was driving a friend to work,my speed gauge started to flutter a little, well it started to get worse that day then stopped doing it for a day or two and started back. Well it eventually got so bad that my car actually seemed to slow down with the flutter in the speed gauge. Well i went to a mechanic and he said speed sensor or maybe a new cluster. Okay so i replaced the sensor that day and it drove perfect afterward. Well now, a month later, it has went back out. My car is doing the same thing (fluttering speed) and drivin like it cant get up speed and hesitant. I had a friend that knows a little about cars and he was thinking maybe the transmission,so i took it to a trans guy and he said he thinks its electric since it made my sensor go out and that he doubt I needed a new gauge. So do you have any idea about specifically what wires or what all could make my sensor go out like that? Someone also suggested me putting a new trans filter on it. I've put a fuel pump and filter,alternator,O2 Sensor, and battery on this car in the past year I've had it.

The wiring needs to be inspected to the VSS. There could be a chafe in the power wire that is intermittent and creates a short to ground/voltage.
