Transmission problem
1997 Chevy Cavalier 4 cyl Wheel Drive Type unknown 114296 miles
----------------------------------------------------------------
i have a 1997 chevy cavalier that we use as an extra car as a family.about a year ago we replace the engine.up until now the car has run very good, but recently we are unable to get the car to go forward or reverse. it goes into gear, but does not move?starts up& runs great? possible transmission replacement can be very costly, & we are not financially prepared for this? is it possible it could be something else?

How is the fluid level?

Does the shifter move freer than normal, may be disconnected.

I would first check to make sure the linkage is actually moving the arm on the transmission, it may not be fully engaging it.
