1997 Chevy Cavalier starter problems

Electrical problem
1997 Chevy Cavalier 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

my g/fs dad installed a new starter on her car and now anytime you touch the possitive battery cable to the battery the car trys to start no matter if ther key is on or not what can i do to fix this problem im not that experienced with starter problems or cavaliers
any advice would be greatly appreciated

check and make sure the cable is installed correctly on the starter. it should only go on one way. make sure it is away from the solenoid terminal (the small terminal).
