the oil is leaking but I dont think its the oil pan itself what else could it be?

Could be a valve cover, front or rear main seal.

Clean engine (cold) with a degreaser and wash off with hose (be very carefull not to wash ANY electrical connections), then buy a dye that goes in oil. After a day or two inspect with black light to isolate source.
