1997 Chevy Cavalier 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive 35,000 miles

How do you remove the oil filter? My husband has tried everything he knows to do. He has done alot of oil changes for our family on different types of cars and never had this problem.All he managed to do on our cavalier is dent and put a hole in the filter. We just got the car recently and it had sat for a year the oil needed to be changed we don't know what to do. Please help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Grap it with big locking pliers or drive a screwdriver thru it and push hard
