roughs rough from 0304 misfire code...real bad fuel smell under every condition...light blinks when in drive at idle, will not blink if in neutral at idle, but is always on regardless...vehicle was run near empty for probably a few months by previous owner...always used 87 octane...oil looks about 5000 miles overdue...everything else is cherry...my guess? injector stuck open, maybe from debris from low fuel tank, fouled the plug, and getting unburned and dumped as waste straight out of exhaust (explains smell)...have done no diagnostic work yet but am knowledgable on how to use a multimeter...where's a good starting point?

While you may have a bad injector, you also have a clogged CAT. You will have to change the CAT after fixing the misfire.
Start with a noid light at the injector connector, check spark, get the codes from the PCM (free at most autoparts stores).
