1996 Chevy Cavalier

Driver's side door latch won't close door. seems to be stuck in closed position. tried popping it open with screwdriver, but will not open. what else can I try? Could spring be broken? photo is not very good but hope it helps. am asking you because I have no money right now. Please help me. Try pulling on door handles while trying to pry latch with screw driver. Also make sure lock is not stuck in the lock position.
