1995 Chevy Cavalier Serging and missing

I have a 1995 cavalier ls that runs pretty smooth idiling but when I give it gas it starts to serge at about 2000rpms. I changed plugs and cat. converter. Any ideas. I bought this car new and would like to keep it on the road.
