1994 Chevy Cavalier engine reving high

1994 Chevy Cavalier

engine was revving very high, like the cruise control was stuck, brake lights came on, car would just go without pushing gas. Then when turned car off, it was hard to start like, it did not start right up like usual. When started, idle very high, put into reverse and let off brake, just went without pushing gas. Put it back into park, idle very high again. Now the car will not start at all.
There is oil and water, temp seems ok. Help, single woman, only car to get to work. Thanks so much in advance for all help.
