I have a 1990 chevrolet cavalier. The car would miss every now and then when I was going up a big hill and the service engine light would come on from time to time. I didn't think much of it. On my way to the doctor one day I had my car in neutral letting it coast down a big hill and when I got to the bottom and put the car back in drive it died in the road. I pulled over and it started right up. First thing that I thought was that it was the fuel pump. So about a week ago I cut the car off one night and go back to start it a few hours later and it won't start. It would crank but wouldn't start. So my boyfriend and I listened to see if the fuel pump was kicking in when I turned the key on and it wasn't. I buy a new fuel pump and we put it in. Turn the key on and could hear it kick in. So I think YES my car is fixed. Still wouldn't start. So we take the fuel filter off and turn the key on and gas is coming out of the hose so we know that it's pumping. Still won't start. We try boosting it cause we think the battery is dead. We boost it and it still won't start. It will crank but it won't start. We check the fluid in the battery and I have 2 dry cells. We fill them up and try starting it. No such luck. We check to see if its firing. It is firing but the fire is not blue it's orange. I just replaced my plugs about 4 months ago. I have no idea what's wrong with my car. Someone told me that the fuel pump may not be pumping enough fuel to the fuel injectors or that my ignition control module is bad. They told me to take the breather hose off and spray ether in it and see if it starts that way. They said if it starts that way then my fuel pump isn't pumping the right amount. And that if it doesnt start that its a firing problem. I pray that someone else has had this problem and you can tell me what to do to fix it. This is soooo aggravating not knowing what to do. Thanks a bunch you guys.
