1989 Chevy Cavalier I need help

I have black smoke coming out of my air filter and i, m bringing up a trouble code 35 do you have any idea what it could be?

Hi:
A code 35 is for the Idle air Control Valve (IAC). It's only purpose it to keep the engine idle steady. I don't know if that is your problem. The black smoke coming through the air filter makes me believe that you may have a problem with one or more intake valves. You will need to check the engine's compression to determine if the valves are bad.
