Engine Performance problem
1987 Chevy Cavalier 6 cyl Automatic 165, 00 miles

Have a 1987 chevrolet Cavalier Z24 2.8 motor initially it is starting/cranking, fine the problems occure when the car is driven for a short or long distance and when I trun the ignition off it hesitate or wont start back up at all, have to sit and wait for approximal 20-30mins. B4 it start back up. Same problem happen when the car is crunk up in stationary position. The car might start back up initiallly after you have driven it and turn the ignition off and immediately turn the ignition back on, but wont start back up if it sits for about 15-20mins, car seems like when it has generate an exteme/excessive amount of heat somewhere in one of it's mechanical part it has to cool down b4 it starts up again, just my unprofessional guess I'm definitely not a mechanic. But the OIL PRESSURE SWITCH has been replaced. I am the owner of thr car for 15yrs. Pleaseeeee ur help is very much appreciated

Does the engine crank at all when it doesnt start or will it do nothing? Have you ever had the starter looked at?

Yes. The engine will crank up, just wont crank up after I have driven the car for 5- 10miles or further depending on where I'm going could be a short, distance or long diistance, but when I get to my destination, turn the ignition off wait about 15-20mins. Try to crank the car back up, the car hesitate when cranking up and sometimes wont crank at all until I let the car cool down for about 30mins-1hr. And then the car will crank up like nothing is wrong with it.

Have the starter checked and check your battery connections and make sure they are tight

Had the STARTER checked and battery conections all is working good, battery connections are tight, looking towards m/b the FUEL PUMP is bad & getting FUEL FILTER and FUEL STRAINER. Haven't had that check yet. But I did have a oil pressure switch put on. So what do you think could it be the FUEL PUMP?
