caprice backfires out exhaust under load and has loss of power. after backfire, car takes off and accelerates intermittently. set code for o2 sensor slow response but check engine light went off, also set code for random misfire on the highway but went off. i did plugs and wires and cleaned grease off opti spark distrubtor and the car has a lot more power but still has the problems. what can i do to fix my backfiring and unusually slow caprice?

Hi:
Have you replaced the O2 sensor? Also, have you checked to see if the catylatic converter is partially plugged? finally, a common cause of a backfire is a vacuum leak. Check closely for them and make sure the intake gasket isn't leaking.
