I have a 1991 Chevrolet Caprice used as a second car. The motor was replaced two years ago. And the radiator was replaced two months ago. Now the transmission is on the way out. My mechanic says I shouldn't put anymore money in the vehicle. Is replacing the transmission a big ticket item? What else stands to fail soon? I live in a small town and use the car to travel a maximum of 3 miles from the house on any one trip once or twice per day.

Your response is appreciated.

Thank you.

You can probably find a good used transmission from a junk yard for $300. And that same junk yard will probably charge you another $300 to put it in.

Fixing your car will depend on how much you need/want you car. Once you get so many miles on a car, you never know what will fail next. And it all depends on how you maintain you car.
