1983 Chevy Caprice Battery not charging

1983 Chevy Caprice V8 Front Wheel Drive Automatic

Hello there....I just brought a new alternator for my 83 chysler caprice classic but my battery keeps going dead now that i've had it put in the battery still keeps going dead it's like the battery's not being charged,because once it's charged it goes dead again i also had brought a new battery and thats not working either...can you help me

Make sure that the battery terminal connections are clean and tight. A good way to see if your alternator is working is -- when it is dark outside, park about ten feet from a wall. Turn your headlights and engine off.. Now with the engine OFF, turn your headlights ON. Observe the brightness of your headlights shining on the wall ...Next - with the headlights still ON - start the engine while observing the head lights. They should get brighter and flicker a little as the engine is starting. This means that your alternator is charging the system. Also, look for shorts in the positive (red) cable connecting to the alternator...Let us know waht you find..
BTW - just because the alternator is NEW does not mean it is working properly.
