Hi there my Tach reads about 5000 rpm at idle, I have checked the wiring as per the factory manual.

All the circuits checkout okay, I have replaced the Tach as recommended by the manual but the new one does the same thing, where do I look next?

I had the same problem with the tach on my 92 Camaro. Tried the resistor fix but it didnt work. Finally found a tach board at the junkyard that worked for about a year.
I found a new replacement tach board. Only had it for about a week but it seemed to fix the problem! Hurray!!

I have a 91 camaro V8 RS convertible. The tach maxes out & stays there when the car is running. Any ideas on the fix?

Sounds like a ground problem with the gauge.

The gauges are not all grounded together. Here is the location of the ground on the connector for the tach.
