After smelling something burning, my headlights would not work. I couldn't even turn the knob. So I replaced the headlight switch. Lights still would not work and it seemed that the new headlight switch became very warm after trying it. What might be wrong with the headlights?

If the switch got warm and the lights didnt work, sounds like a short in the wiring.Look for any melted insulation or where it might be pinched or rubbing on something
