My car has gotten to where in the mornings(35 degrees) when I heat the car up for 15 mins, the heat is only warm coming out of the vents. After the car has run for 30-40 mins it is really hot. I have had the radiator flushed, thermostat replaced and the whole heater hose/line assembly replaced because it needed it. I have been told that the only thing left to replace would be the heater core. What I don't understand is,if the car doesn't get warm in the morning when first started, then gets really hot after awhile, how can it be the heater core? Seems to me that I wouldn't get any heat at all??

[quote:acd0ca8cb5="techman1"]I would have to bet that your thermostat is staying partially open causing it much longer for you to get heat. I have complained for 30 years that car-makers use only a cheap chincy thermostat to protect a $2,000 engine. There is good news. Stant, a supplier of thermostats has come out with a Superstat. They are only about $2 more than their regular thermostat, but they are made with bigger, heavier metal parts and the bi-metal coil which operates the thermostat is twice as thick. I put them in 2 of my vehicles in the last week. I got mine at Advance Auto Parts. What makes a thermostat bad is that the coil spring wound bi-metal over time compresses more on one side than the other, so the water plunger leans and drags to one side instead of moving in and out in a centered motion. When it drags, the thermostat either stays partially open or partially closed.[/quote:acd0ca8cb5]

Funny you mention that thermostat. That's the one I got.
