91 Camaro Bumping Noise

Guys,

I have a 91 RS, 171K, my problem is that I hear a distinct single "Pop" when accelerating from a complete stop. I have limited mechanical background but it's definitely not engine noise. To me it sounds like a worn bushing of some kind, or perhaps a worn universal or rear end issue. I inquired with a local transmission shop and the guy said, "that there's an arm that has a bushing that wears out a bunch". I'd like to see if I can locate and replace this bushing myself or if I'm getting in over my head. The noise is never heard any other time except an intial acceleration. The car drives and shifts normally. Is there some kind of torque arm in this car like the old MOPAR's used to have torque shafts? Thanks for the help.

Had the same problem shortly after buying my '91. Turned out to be the transmission mount was broke and when I would hit the acceleration, the tranny would pop up and hit the underbody. Seems like I ended up having to take the mount out to see that it was broke. The part was cheap and easy to replace. Try that.
