I replaced the timing cover gasket, and water pump, but now have no heat in car. The bypass hose to the heater hose does not get hot to touch after normal temp. Is reached. The thermastat appears to be opening properly as the engine idles at normal temp.W/the fan starting properly

It sounds as if you have one of the two most common problems with that year. One is that it may be a clogged heater core or heater core hose. To check that, I would try flushing out the heater core and see if you get free flowing water. If you do, you probably have the second most common problem. A clogged or bad heater control valve. They are not very expensive. Id say $10-20 or cheaper if you order one online. If you dont have any leaks, the thermostat is good and the proper coolant level is kept, your problem a clog somewhere. So thats where I'd start. You should have heat if the core is free flowing and you replace the heater control valve. Good Luck!!!!!!!
