I have a 1997 Camaro RS with a 6 cyl.
I tried to start the car one day and it would not crank over. Also the security light on the dash was flashing. I assume you have a resistor pellet key. I did bypass the TDM for less than $5.00. First thing to do is remove the panel at the base of the steering colum. Then unplug a tiny 2 wire connector. Insert your key into the ignition. Turn the key to the on position. Take a multimeter and check the resistance from the side of the connector going up to the key switch.
If there is no reading then you can make up a jumper. Measure the resistance of your pellet key. Go to radio shack and buy some resistors, place them in series with each other to add up to the same resistance of your key. Solder them together and
wrap with elctrical tape. Then splice the jumper assembly to the 2 wires going to the TDM. You must cut the 2 wires to splice together. You can cut the wires a short distance from the plug that goes back up to the steering colum. Then plug the connector back together. The TDM will think you have the correct pellet key inserted.
It will start right up. (assuming there is nothing else wrong). It worked for me.
