When buying a used engine block, What are some things I should look out for in either situation. (1) The block is bare except for Crankshaft, or (2) the engine is fully assembled.

I am in the rebuilding process, upgrading to a 350 C.I. Used block and would like to make a safe investment.( A checklist could be helpful) ex. 1. Never been bored, 2. No visible cracks on cylinder wall. 3. Remove heads and check deck
Any Inforation or advice would be much appreciated. Im also looking for a site like this to use on a regular basis. Pardon me for not donating as this is my first question so far and I like too try before I buy.

Hi chevyman. You have the basics already in your post. But a assembled block will be cheaper to build. Check the bolt holes for helicoil check the deck and cyls for cracks or damage from parts breaking. Blocks are pretty tough and hard to damage. So not bored not cracked. Not damaged these are things core buyers look for. So you don, t have to worry much more then you have. Look really good into the cam journal. Good luck billymac
