why do I get carbon build up in my distribuator cap. Every 3 months or so I have to open the cap, sand down the connection points as they build up a carbon deposit and I can't start my car. I'm told it's running rich possibly.

your carbon in the dist cap is coming from the button under the coil wire. It may be a cheap cap and rotor. Replace it with a name brand cap and rotor and make sure it's not made in China. the rotor where it hits' the distributor cap may be sharp and is grinding off the carbon. Also when your tighten the cap down tighetn the screws down even ly not one then the other.
