1988 Chevy Camaro Broken bellhousing

my 88 camaro has an new 2.8l engine. it started to break bellhousings after i replaced the distributor. the new distributor gave the car a lot more acceleration and torque. ive broken 3 bellhousings.

A 2.8 doesnt make enough power to break bellhousing. There is an alignment problem with the trans most likely. Are both alignment dowels in place for the bellhousing to line up on?
