1983 Chevy Camaro fusible links

I have a blown fusible link at the starter. It is the one to the ignition switch. I read that it has to be caused by a dead short. I connected an ohmmeter to where the link was blown and fto chassis ground. I found 5.3 ohms resistance. I turned the key on and nothing changed. Next I disconnected items one at a time and nothing seems to change except the alternator. Then it becomes open. Does this indicate an alternator or regulator problem?

No short very common problem it is caused by time, heat and vibration in that metal tube. Best thing to do is go along wire untill all fuse link is gone, splice two 16ga wires run to starter. There is another one do it also save yourself some hassel. Get rid of metal tube replace with flex heat shield ie. looks like a foil blanket. Done plenty of these and this works.
