1983 Chevy Camaro alternator

I just replaced the alternator with a brand new one, my problem is now with the new one my volt guage for the battery shows overcharging in the red, what would cause this, thanks Dale

Double check the connections behind the alternator and back to the ignition switch and the ground cable-the regulator is not controlling the alternator, the regulator is being bypass for some reason.
