Hi I have a 79 camaro with a 305. It has a Rochester dual jet carb. Bought this camaro for a project. The car has a flat cam lobe. It drove when I got the car.

it ran like crap when I got it. So I timed it and now it dries when you try to drive it. I can press the accelerator in park or neutral and it stays running. When I put it into drive it bogs down, but stays running. However when I step on the gas, it kills. Any ideas?

i took some vacuum readings in park at idle in get about 10hg at 2000 RPM I get about 15hg. I also tested the thermal vacuum switch and that checked out good. Checked for vacuum leaks but couldn't find any obvious ones

Well you need to replace the cam and lifters. With a flat lobe the engine can't produce enough vacuum, that is why it so low. You should also do a compression test and leak down test so you know weather or not you should just rebuild or replace the engine.
