transmission problem

2001 chevy blazer 140,000 miles 4.3 v6 4x4 its the transmission it will not take drive i mean when you put it into drive it does not go forward.all the other gears are fine p,r,1,2.what is going on.

has there been a check engine light on ???

the info given of the cable adjustment is wrong and probably will not help , if you really want to check the cable place the transmission in park and set the parking brake , pul cable from the shift lever on the transmission and see if the shift lever will move forward at all if so adjust the cable accordingly , but if your guages rare reading properly i would suspect another problem let me know
