2004 Chevy Blazer Major oil leak

I just had my Blazer serviced by the local Chevy dealer. When they changed the oil they said there was a major oil leak from the front of the engine. I have not noticed any oil on the garage floor so I assume this is new. I am about to leave on a 1400 mile trip in 2 days. What should I do? Is there any way to check to make sure it will be safe for the trip if I check the oil often. How often? What is the usual cause of a leak from the front of a 4.3L, 6 cyl Blazer motor? How long will might it take to fix?

Driver's front? Very often are the oil cooler lines leaking. They are much less expensive aftermarket and an independent garage can help you with that. We just had a job like that two week ago and NAPA carried them for a sixth of the cost.

There are a few of them, so it does depend on which are needed. Maybe a 15 minute repair, maybe a couple hour repair.

I have made a donation. I did that first.

They said the oil was from the front of the engine. The front- front?? That's all I know. If it were the lines, I think they would have told me that.

I responded to you because of the donation...that is just my signature...always says that.

I wouldn't count out the lines, these are the only things I have seen at the miliage you are at. OF course there are other possible seals that may be leaking, but not so early.

How low was the oil?
How often do you need to add oil?
Are you seeing anything on the ground?

You can take a look for yourself with good lighting and mirrors if needed. IF you don't see anything get a second opinion at a different shop.

They didn't check the level. Drain and refill I guess.

Never had to add oil. Never seen a drop on the garage floor.

I'll try to look but we are on vacation and not much for tools, mirrors, lights, etc.

I'll try another dealer I guess but I have to leave in 36 hours on a 1400 mile drive.

If your not losing any, not seeing anything on the ground...it isn't consistent with a major oil leak...It is consistent with technicians or service writers trying to make some money.

I'm thinking more that there is no problem.

Sometimes a digital camera can work wonders in your situation. Shoot some pics of the bottom and front of the motor in areas that are hard to see.
