I'm back with more questions. After disassembling everything when I got to the orifice tube it looked like my daughter had put glitter glue in my a/c system.
I've gone on to get all of the replacement parts: condenser, comp. Hoses, lines, orifice tube etc.

My question: can I flush and reuse the existing evaporator avoiding in my opinion and that of my professional friend, the biggest pain in the backside.

I'm up for the challenge if that is the case, and I have my buddy to bail me out when and if I hit the wall. This is a project car; that being the only reason I am attempting the project in the first place.

Depending on how much glitter glue was added to the car would be whether you could reuse it or not. I would guess to try to back flush it and then put the system back together. I would think it would plug up maybe a little bit of the evap and not make much difference. If anything got through the eva p it would only go to the rec/drier and that would be no worse than breaking the desecant bag inside that. But when you charged the system I would definitely do a 15 minute evac with a freon sweep and then another 15 min evac before charging the system. I'm sure you would know by then. Of course the stuff you found in the orfice may be aluminum from soemthing else like a compressor valve on the old system.
