When my blazer is in 4-hi it won't disengage into 2-wheel drive when I push the button. After about a minute or so it will finally disengage, making a really loud noise like I hit something on my under carriage. The only way I can get it peacefully get it out is to put it in reverse, drive in reverse, then back into park.

Hi:
Placing the car in reverse isn't uncommon to shut down the 4wd. Is this something new?

It is automatic 4-wheel with push button. It is supposed to be able to switch over while driving under 45 mph.

The only thing that I can think of that could cause the problem is if the 4wd actuator on the transfer case isn't working properly. I would suggest removing the actuator to see of it is fully functional or if it is sluggish, delayed...

I dont think its the actuator but you can test it. More than likely the 4x4 switch is going bad. Its relatively easy to replace. It just screws into the top of your tranny.
