2000 Chevy Blazer NOt goign into passing gear.

My mom has a 2000 chevy blazer. The problem is that it will not go into passing gear. It looses speed goig up hills cause it won't hit passing gear. Is there something simple I could do to fix it? Or what it could be?

It probably needs to be overhauled. Have it checked for trouble codes first.
