My gas guage is bouncing around is this a sign of needing a new fuel pump?

Actually, the fuel pump is most likely fine. However, the float assembly may be the problem, and it is part of the fuel pump.

Keep in mind, the float sends a signal to the body control module and then to the gauge. You may want to have them checked. I would hate to see you replace the fuel pump and it not take care of the problem.
