When I shift into reverse, I hear a loud clanking sound. It is much worse than a typical u-joint noise. It jerks and grabs in reverse for a moment but will still back up. When I shift into drive, everything seems to work ok. Please tell me what you think it could be. This is a 1999 push button 4 wheel drive Blazer.

do you have a check engine light on? if so, you may get a code for the transmission.... does it only do it in 2wheel, or does it do it in both 4wheel and 2??? also, with your foot on the brake, as soon as it shifts into reverse, does the truck kind of shake? similiar to when you put it in drive- the shake when the transmission is engaged into gear.
