1999 Chevy Blazer Fluid level check

1999 Chevy Blazer 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic 100k miles

When I check automatic transmission fluid level with engine off, it shows full. When I check it with engine idiling, it doesn't register on the dipstick.
