I have a 1999 Chevy Blazer which I recently purchased. Everything in the front end was original but I was not having proper steering control when driving. I replaced all the steering ends, which were bad and did a re-alignment after but I have not been able to totally correct the problem. The ball joints and stabilizer bar rubbers all check good, but there is a four to five inches play either way on the steering wheel . Can you give me an idea as to what to do to correct this problem.

The excessive freeplay could be in the steering gear box or in one of the steering shaft joints between the column and steering box.
Raise the front end of the vehicle off the ground. Move the wheels side to side while having an assistant check for excessive play in steering components. Pay close attention to the pitman and idler arms. (pitman arm is on gearbox, idler arm is on frame rail)
If all parts are tight, suspect internal freeplay in the gearbox.
