1999 Chevy Blazer broke the head off starter

changed the flywheel after it started making grinding noise. ran fine then this morning it turned over but sounded like the motor kicked back and broke the head off the starter. replaced the starter and the crankshaft sensor, turned it over one time and broke the head off the new starter. does anyone know what this could be?

You sure you have the correct flexplate and torqued properly-the only way for that to happened is the starter drive pinion is too close to the flexplate that it jams between teeths and lock the pinion drive in place before it retracts-

i have the right flexplate and its torqued to the amount that it gives me in the haynes book i have. i don't have a clue what it is
