Won't shift properly, it will eventually shift. Will not do anything in reverse. Any ideas on how bad of a problem I might be facing?

Has the check engine light ever come on? It could deal with the trans control module, shift solenoid... However, they would have set a check engine code.

The check engine light has been on for before at different times. Always did go off on its own. I would say 5 or 6 times over the past couple of years. It might stay on for a month then go off, or just a couple of days then go off.
