1998 Chevy Blazer the air in my car is always hot

i recently had my manifold gasket replaced and when i turned my heat on it first went from hot to cold. now its very hot but i cant get any cold air even if i put on the a/c. do i need to charge the a/c?

does the ac compressor engage when you turn on the ac? if it does not then start by having the ac refrigerent level checked and or charged.
