Ijust discovered that the air filter was almost completely off. The car has been cutting off, and restarting at stops, or after getting hot, due to long distance trips. Now the service engine light is on. Was the air filter the cause?

you have a maf sensor? was there a major air leak after it or before it? that coudl cause some issue.

get it scanned though first i woudlnt suspect it to be due to the air filter, unless dirt got on some sensors.
