1997 Chevy Blazer transmission fluid & filter change

dip stick gets fluid way up on stick. Hard to read correct level. Did a filter and fluid change, book says put in 3 1/2 quarts and in another section book says put in 5 quarts. I cant trust the dip stick and the book is contradicting. What is correct amount?

3 1/2 qts is probably the engine, the filter holds another so i would go with five qts!
