1997 Chevy Blazer fan replacement

ok, so the fan clutch is threaded to the water pump. what is the best way to keep the shaft from turning while trying to unscrew the assy?

Leave the belt on and give the wrench a good whack to break the fan free. If the belt is alredy off you can use a strap wrench.
