I have brown sludge in my radiator and in my oil. What is the cause of this and how can I fix it?

It sounds like there may be a head gasket problem allowing the two to mix. If you change the oil on a regular basis, and the coolant is kept up, my guess is a bad intake gasket or head gasket. You can check compression to test for a head gasket leak.
